When I began designing a brand identity for a line of sunglasses, I started by exploring potential names that would embody the essence of light, protection, and elegance. I presented several name ideas to my professor, each carrying a unique cultural and conceptual meaning:
Noor (Nour): Derived from Arabic, “Noor” means “light.” It perfectly reflects the function of sunglasses — to protect the eyes from sunlight while enhancing vision. Its simplicity and memorability also make it ideal for branding and word-of-mouth marketing.
Rrorad(short for “Prohibition of Radiation”): This acronym emphasizes the protective function of sunglasses against harmful rays.
Kavir (Desert): Evoking the scorching heat and intense sunlight of the desert, this name subtly highlights the product’s protective role.
Parto (Ray): A direct reference to light rays in Persian.
Razan: A Kurdish word meaning “beam of light.”
Hafez: With Arabic roots, this name means “guardian” or “protector,” again tying into the core function of sunglasses.
After thoughtful consideration and with guidance from my professor, I chose the name Noor. I opted for the “Noor” spelling (as opposed to “Nour”) to give myself greater flexibility and creative freedom in designing a distinctive visual identity.
From there, I began sketching initial logo concepts, knowing that I needed to create both a symbolic icon and a typographic logo. My goal was to develop a visual brand that was minimal, modern, and deeply meaningful — just like the name Noor itself.
Here are some ideas came to my mind
Then, with the help of my professor, I selected some of the best etudes.
